Scheffau 9-16 March 2008

We flew out early from Bristol to Innsbruck by EasyJet. The hirecar through Europcar was delivered to the airport from their downtown Innsbruck office without any fuss when it emerged that the internet booking had been cocked up.

The first afternoon Karen recruited an entire class for Mark to lead.

On Tuesday the hire car came into its own - Mark took Jenny to the Kitzbuheler Horn where she got to practise on red runs.

After lunch we drove further up the valley to Pass Thurn, which was higher and had better snow snow conditions.

On Wednesday we took Karen out on her own and skied to Hoch Brixen - the first time Karen had ever had a coffee break at a restaurant other than the one at the top or bottom of the initial gondola.

Thursday's plan was to spend the afternoon in the mud baths at the spa in Kitzbuhel but this was scuppered by the spa being open on Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays only. In spite of this, we had a good day out at Kirchberg (with Mark on the snowboard) and had a better lunch than normal at the restaurant at the bottom of the Flechalm gondola rather than the more limited choice at one of the mountain restaurants.

Friday was foul weather for the kids' races but Saturday turned out beautiful. We drove to Ellmau and had the slopes of Going practically to ourselves. Jenny tackled the reds there before we caught the HartKaiserBahn funicular up to meet everyone for lunch at Scheffau.

We skied back for a last drink at the much nicer restaurant at the top of the HartKaiser.

Another early start back to Innsbruck and a mid-morning flight to Bristol.
